Baked Monte Cristo Sandwich

  • 4 slices bread
  • 1/2 pound sliced baked ham
  • 1/2 ounce cheese slices
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • powdered sugar, for serving

Preheat oven to 450 F. Prepare a baking sheet covered in parchment paper. In a shallow dish (large enough to fit a sandwich), beat the eggs with the milk and vanilla. Set aside. Assemble the bottoms of the bread with ham and cheese. Spread the bread tops with strawberry jam. Slightly compress sandwich. Dip both sides of the sandwich in the egg wash for 5 seconds on each side. Transfer to the baking sheet. Bake 6 minutes, flip and bake 5 more minutes, until browned and the cheese has melted. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
