Wanda’s Wonderful Rum Balls

  • 4 cups crushed vanilla wafers (about 1 [12-ounce] package)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 3 1/2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup rum for alcoholic version, optional
  • 1 teaspoon rum extract for nonalcoholic version, optional
  • powdered sugar for rolling

In a large bowl, combine the crushed vanilla wafers, walnuts, coconut, sweetened condensed milk, and either the rum or rum extract. Mix until thoroughly combined. Lightly dust your hands with powdered sugar and shape the mixture into walnut-sized balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
